Theirs/Mine: Wedding Ornament

After I was married I held onto my bouquet and hung it to dry.
WK had her flower petals pressed into jewelery, which I though was a completely amazing idea... But too expensive for our budget.
I thought that after a while I would find an equally amazing idea for my flowers.

My bouquet hung in my spare closet for almost two years.
Before this, it was hanging off to the side in out coat closet because I didn't have a clue where else to store it.

Then I found this pin on Pinterest.
{pic via}

Yay!
Finally, something to get my bouquet outta the closet.

Here is Mine!

{Found this on Amazon and ordered it. There wasn't anything like it locally.}

{My bouquet, all dried out.}

{Cutting off the flowers and filling the ornament.}

{Close it up!}
Finished!
{I used the bow that was wrapped around the stems to finish!}

I'm always curious about what people do with their bouquets after their weddings.

I'd love to hear what you did with yours!

April Book Club: 11/22/1963 by Stephen King

Due to the length of the book and how busy everyone in our book club got, we postponed the book club meeting to a later date.
Here is my breakdown so that I can choose a book for May.

ON NOVEMBER 22, 1963, THREE SHOTS RANG OUT IN DALLAS, PRESIDENT KENNEDY DIED, AND THE WORLD CHANGED. WHAT IF YOU COULD CHANGE IT BACK?
In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King—who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer—takes readers on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.
It begins with Jake Epping, a thirty-five-year-old English teacher in Lisbon Falls, Maine, who makes extra money teaching GED classes. He asks his students to write about an event that changed their lives, and one essay blows him away—a gruesome, harrowing story about the night more than fifty years ago when Harry Dunning’s father came home and killed his mother, his sister, and his brother with a sledgehammer. Reading the essay is a watershed moment for Jake, his life—like Harry’s, like America’s in 1963—turning on a dime. Not much later his friend Al, who owns the local diner, divulges a secret: his storeroom is a portal to the past, a particular day in 1958. And Al enlists Jake to take over the mission that has become his obsession—to prevent the Kennedy assassination.
So begins Jake’s new life as George Amberson, in a different world of Ike and JFK and Elvis, of big American cars and sock hops and cigarette smoke everywhere. From the dank little city of Derry, Maine (where there’s Dunning business to conduct), to the warmhearted small town of Jodie, Texas, where Jake falls dangerously in love, every turn is leading eventually, of course, to a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald and to Dallas, where the past becomes heart-stoppingly suspenseful, and where history might not be history anymore. Time-travel has never been so believable. Or so terrifying.

My Opinion:

So I purchased this book early and started it...
I got stuck when I had to put it down within the first 30 pages.
I could not get myself motivated enough to really give the book any time until I forced myself to read one afternoon.
And an evening about a week later.
Then again 3 days after that.

It took me over a month to actually read this entire book.
For me this is unheard of and a little depressing.
I don't know if it shows more about my life right now or about the book.

I think that the size of the book is intimidating.
This being my first Stephen King book added a little bit more pressure.
That equals starting the book and not picking it back up for another 4-5 weeks.
I'm not proud.
Usually I'm way, way better at finishing a book that I start.

Anyway, once I actually got into the first time travel experience I was much better set to actually read.

The book is interesting.
Graphic.
LONG.
Long.
Did I mention it was long?

I almost felt like the editors could have been a little bit more picky about this one.
I mean really...
I mean no disrespect, but even Stephen King should be edited a little...

Back to the book.
I didn't really enjoy it.
The writing wasn't all that.
The idea is a good one.
But not almost 700 pages good.
I mean we could have cut out some things and I would have never known.

History buffs, go ahead and read.
Not a history buff?
Not into reading a uber long book?
Read to about page 250 then skip to page 680.
You'll get the gist.

(I can't even believe I just suggested not fully reading a book. For shame!)

As you can tell, not my fav...

Theirs/Mine: House Number Pot

Today my Theirs/Mine was found on Pinterest... But it's from an actual site!
My first imitation craft!
I'm excited!
Can you tell?

Theirs:

{pic via}
Ready for this?

I bought everything at my local Michael's.
The terracotta pot and base were about $3 a piece and the paint was on sale for .99
It was really the paint brushes that were so expensive...
I mean one brush was $4 all by itself.

Anyway.
I started out with spray paint as the base.
I had it and I wanted it gone...
It died one spray in.
So I used my backup terracotta outdoor paint that I bought.

After letting the black sit over the weekend (the paint said 72 hours of drying time.) I picked up the pot last night and got to work.

Painting the numbers and design was a lot harder than I though it was going to be.
I mean really, how do people not pick up their paint brushes at all while doing this?
And how do they not do the painting different every time they go over it.
I think my paintbrush was a little bit too big for the job.
Oh well.

Mine:
{I used pencil first. This is the first/second coat of paint.}
{Finished! I painted the base black after I took this picture, so now it's all matchy-matchy}
{Asher likes to be a part of craft time.}
Finished!

Once I am done with everything I'm going to do another tour and you'll get to see everything in action.
Hopefully that will be sooner rather than later.

My Weekend Away

So I gave you a little taste of the weekend with my childhood friend's wedding.
It was awesome.
It was a weekend away.

Asher got to hang out at home with KG.

More pictures!

{My outfit}

It was a pretty good weekend. I actually had a lot of fun rooming with my parents and hanging out with my family for the entire weekend.

Blog Name Change

Dishes & Wishes is now Enamored & Elegant.
Get it?
'E'
Erin.
Enamored.
Elegant
.
.
.
Elegant was just another E word that worked...
I am not in a position to say whether or not I'm elegant, per say.
But,
I like to think I got a little somethin' somethin' going on, if you know what I mean.
.
.
.
.
HA!

Anyway...
What do you think of the new name?

New look on it's way,
New name,
Same old me.

So keep an eye out for the change so you are not all "what the heck blog is this? Delete!"

Wedding Weekend

This past weekend I went out of town for a wedding for an old childhood friend.
It was a fun weekend I was able to spend with my family.

I'm  most excited about the dresses that I took for the event/weekend.
I ordered them from Forever 21 about 2 weeks ago and one of them had a messed up hemline.
I didn't enjoy the trip to the mall to exchange it.
Have I ever mentioned that the mall gives me the heebie-geebies?
At least the mall closest to my house does.
I digress.

Anyway,
I didn't even end up wearing that dress... I wore a different one.
Figures.

Black lace
{me and Big Sis}

{heading to the church}
It was a really great weekend and I loved the excuse to get a new dress!
And by 'a dress' I mean two new dresses.

How was your weekend, Loves?

Theirs/Mine: I Love You Because...

I found this on Pinterest and thought it would be really sweet to have in our bedroom.

Mine:

All you need is a frame, dry erase marker and cute scrapbook paper (or in my case wrapping paper) to use as a background.

C'est fait.

Anyone else do a Pinterest inspired craft?

Review: Getting My Blog Reviewed

I've been blogging for over 3 years now.
Woah!
Where has time gone.
It seems like last month I started blogging about my wedding planning.

Crazy!

Anyway.
Last month, I was perusing one of the blogs I frequent, Long Distance Loving, and I noticed that Alison offers blog consultations.
I was so excited with the idea of someone offering me some constructive criticism when it came to my blog that I emailed her that very second and asked her to help me out..
I adore constructive criticism.
No sarcasm here.
I really do!
I have always felt that there is room for improvement in any aspect of life, and sometimes a little outside perspective is good for your perspective.

So, I contacted her and the rest is history.
Alison is the critical eye behind most of the changes that you have been putting up with over the past month.
She has been so amazing.

Due to my crazy schedule I opted for Alison to review my blog and email me her opinions and suggestions.
She delivered above and beyond what I expected!
I'm talking 3 pages of information.
She was very thorough and completely awesome!
She commented on layout and design, content, and helpful hints to make my blog a more user friendly space.
I loved it.

I took what she had to say and I applied the things that were easy fixes.
The rest of the suggestions are works in progress.
I loved how she was able to stay positive and told me what I was doing well along with things that I needed to improve on.

The final changes will be going live soon.
I hope you like it!

Change of Plans

Don't you just hate it when life just can't seem to settle down and make up it's mind.
That's my life.
Changing things in a split second.
Some times it seems like it happens weekly.
Daily in most cases.

Ready?

Jake and I are not moving.

It's been really hard to find a new place within our price range that has what our current place has to offer us.
ya follow that?
I barely know what I just said.

Our place is nice.
It's a little more expensive than we would like, but not impossible or anything like that.

Plus I'm not fond of the idea of moving all over again...
This time without my husband.

So there you have it.
No moving.
Mad redecorating.

I'm going to go nap now.
Well, after I get home.

Theirs/Mine: Lyrical Photo

On Pinterest, I've pinned this image multiple times, on accident.
I've decided that I want it for my own.

The Process:
Song: Fly Me To The Moon - Frank Sinatra

Writing
I started out writing in pencil then going over it in sharpie

Easy-Peasy!
I got about halfway and started tracing the pencil... It was way off, so I stopped  using pencil and went freehand.

Mine:

I don't have a 5x7 of us dancing at our wedding yet.
That's on a purchase list for this weekend.

The hardest part about this project was the lines on either side of the picture spot.
I should have thought ahead and lined it with a pencil.

Aslo, I didn't take the frame overlay into account...
Next time I'll space it away from the edge a little better.

Whatcha Think?
It literally, took me about 10 minutes to write the lyrics out.
I was a little nervous about messing up the writing, but I powered through.

Anyone else make a Pin come to life?

Does This Make Him A Creeper?

It's hard to tell...

Haha!
I love my Asher-Pup!

To Vlog or Not to Vlog?

It's a big question.
I mean really.
"Everyone" is doing it.
I'm thinking that it may happen sometime in the future.

If there is any reason why this woman should not create a vlog,
Speak now or forever hold your peace.

Actually, if you begged me to never do another I'd probably think you were funny, laugh about it, then cry while I was alone in my bed at night.
I kid.
I'd probably become your best blog friend ever.
I love honesty.

I mean really...
Who wouldn't love youtube to give me freeze frames like this?
{Yes, this was on purpose. Gotta love an ugly mug shot on a wedding disposable camera.}

or this?
{my 'well?' face}

Or how about this?
{it's bound to happen...}

I'm up for the challenge.
We'll see if it's something that fits.

What do you think?
Should I take a crack at it?
Leave it be?

May 7, 2012

Again? So Soon?

Moving feels like it just happened.

Jake and I have decided to not stay in the condo for another year.
It was a great place to be while Jake was gone.
It was a place we could afford while splitting rent with someone.
And while the rent isn't too crazy, We are just trying to find a place that is a little bit more manageable for just the two of us, price wise.

So once again we are on the hunt for a good bargain in our area.
It's actually been going pretty good.
Way better than it did last time.
This past weekend I did 2 walk throughs.
One of the places was even in the same complex we are in now.
Just cheaper rent.
Cha-ching!
It's a possibility.

It's going to be hard in the respect that the lease will be in my name only.
It's not that I'm not willing to take responsibility for anything that happens...
It's that I'm making a decision completely without my husband's input.
I take that back.
He is sent pictures of every place I consider.
But pictures don't give you a feel for a place.
He also has different standards than I do.
Not better or worse, just different.

Anyway.
We'll be moving at the beginning of August if we find a new place.
More boxes and packing tape.
Can you tell I'm looking forward to it?
.
.
.
This is another 'Yay Army.' moment.

A True Friend?

That's you my loves!
Thank you for always being there and caring about my crazy life.
You mean so much to me!
